Jose Reyes has always enjoyed carpentry and construction. As a technician in the Navy, he expanded and mastered his trade, and after his service Jose put his skills to work doing small house projects for friends and family to make ends meet and go to school. He developed a reputation for great work, and in October 2013, officially opened Bneevige Renovations – a start-up company offering handyman and renovation services to the community of Pearland, TX. Bneevige has since enjoyed a steady increase in growth, servicing residential projects in greater Houston and beyond.
So what’s with the name? Bneevige means “fruitful vine” and holds so much significance to Jose, a man of faith, that he named his first born and his first business Bneevige. It is no surprise then that Bneevige’s success has also become a family affair. Jose’s 18-year-old son Deonte is actively involved in operations, while his daughter Antonette creates the marketing videos. His wife Rhonda also assists with the back office – all the while homeschooling their younger children.
Today’s success has not come without challenge and preparation. Before starting Bneevige, Jose needed to learn how to operate a business and understand the liabilities and risk. His enrollment in the Houston PeopleVet program helped him close the knowledge gap. According to Jose, it “provided an environment for the entrepreneur to learn the matrix for owning a business,” including training and education in marketing, budgeting, business credit, and business planning. Jose continues to apply his learnings in the operation of Bneevige Renovations and still refers to PeopleFund as “a business partner [he] can lean on for different resources [such as] mentors, technical assistance and the like.”
Bneevige Renovations also has word-of-mouth referrals to thank for its pipeline of projects. Jose is a veteran and hands-on 
owner committed to excellence and customers’ satisfaction. He also has a gregarious personality and is energetic and passionate about building and nurturing current and past business relationships – all of which contributes to his trusted brand and leads to more opportunities for Bneevige. The business is on its way to meet its goals of having more employees, increasing the size of projects, and expanding into new construction and development in the next year!
When asked what advice he has for aspiring entrepreneurs starting their own business, Jose simply offers: “Take action now.” When asked what’s most rewarding about owning his own business, Jose stresses “being in the community and helping support my fellow man in [achieving] their dreams.”
