Bloom Lab Member Highlight: For the Students Tour

By Ogden Payne

The For the Students Tour started from a need. Like any other 18-year-old kid who just graduated high school with the world ahead of them, my life goal was to become a rapper. I enrolled at Austin Community College in the fall of 2010, pursuing a degree in Commercial Music Management (now called Music Business, Performance and Technology). In the fall semester of 2015, I landed a remote contributing position at Forbes Magazine, documenting the business models and entrepreneurial ventures of some of music’s leading acts.

In August 2017, I graduated from Texas State University with a new goal in mind: to create an organization that educates students, and non-students, about the behind-the-scenes careers and opportunities in the creative field. As a journalist, I began to use my network to host educational programming with some of music’s top businesspeople at colleges and universities across the country.

Since its inception last fall, the For The Students Tour has hosted live Q&As and networking events with a number of industry professionals, including Chris Zarou (manager, Logic) at NYU and Kei Henderson (manager, 21 Savage & President, Since the 80s) at the University of Maryland.

We have an event coming up on Monday, October 29 at the University of Texas at Austin featuring Post Malone’s manager, Dre London. RSVPs can be made here. You don’t want to miss it!
