In the heart of Round Rock, Texas, Sanford Sourdough Bakery has become a beloved neighborhood staple, celebrated for its commitment to quality and community. Owned by Meriann and Dave Sanford, the bakery’s story began in 2018, when the couple moved to Texas with their then-10-year-old California-style sourdough starter. Initially baking bread for the family, the Sanfords quickly realized a growing local demand for high-quality sourdough. What started with deliveries and local farmer’s markets soon transformed into a thriving business.
In 2020, the Sanfords partnered with PeopleFund, securing the resources needed to open their brick-and-mortar location. With this milestone, Sanford Sourdough Bakery expanded its menu, offering its signature organic sourdough loaves and sandwiches, soups, pastries, and more—all made with their now 16-year-old sourdough starter. The bakery even empowers aspiring bread-makers through sourdough starter kits and online courses, fostering a love for the craft.
As demand continued to rise, the Sanfords returned to PeopleFund for a second loan to fuel further growth. Sanford Sourdough Bakery has flourished as a hub for delicious, sustainable food and community connection through this support.
Meriann and Dave credit much of their joy to the relationships they’ve built along the way. “My favorite thing is connecting our local community with great products from not only us but other vendors and farmers,” the Sanfords shared. “Finding other food producers with high standards is super fun.”
With the help of PeopleFund, Sanford Sourdough Bakery is not just rising—it’s thriving. Their story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the right community support.
